Concept Versions of Electric SUV and Pickup

Scout Motors has officially announced that it will be revealing its first new-generation vehicles on October 24. This date holds significance as it marks exactly 44 years since the last International Scout II was built. The American brand, now owned by VW, will debut concept versions of an electric SUV and pickup. These concepts will provide a glimpse of what to expect from the production models that will be manufactured in South Carolina.

Acquisition of Scout Name by VW

In 2020, VW acquired the rights to the Scout name when it purchased Navistar, the company that International Harvester transformed into in 1986. This acquisition paved the way for the revival of the Scout brand under VW’s ownership.

Reviving the Legacy of the International Scout

The International Scout was a renowned off-road vehicle that competed with the likes of the Ford Bronco and served as a precursor to modern SUVs. The last International Scout II was produced on October 24, 1980, due to financial difficulties faced by International. Now, Scout Motors aims to revive the legacy of the Scout brand with its new-generation vehicles.

Technical Details and Production Facility

While specific technical details about the upcoming Scout vehicles have not been disclosed, the company has previously shared sketches showcasing an SUV with a high ride height and minimal overhangs, as well as a pickup truck with an extended wheelbase. These vehicles are expected to rival offerings from Rivian, Ford, Chevy, and Jeep. The production of Scout vehicles will take place at a new $2 billion plant in Blythewood, South Carolina, with a capacity to manufacture up to 200,000 vehicles annually.

Commitment to the Scout Brand

Despite VW’s investment in Rivian, the company remains committed to the Scout brand. It is highly likely that Scout models will benefit from Rivian’s technological advancements in the future.

Stay Tuned for the Unveiling

Scout Motors has released a teaser video featuring a roof-mounted compass and the stylized Scout name. The official unveiling of the new-generation vehicles is scheduled for October 24, 2024. Keep an eye out for more updates and details on this exciting launch.
