VW Transporter T7: The All-New Generation of Vans
Introduction
After months of anticipation, Volkswagen has finally revealed the design of the all-new seventh-generation Transporter and Caravelle vans. These vans are based on the Ford Transit Custom and offer a range of powertrain options.
Key Features
- Based on the Ford Transit Custom and Tourneo Custom
- Available in multiple bodystyles
- Turbodiesel, PHEV, and BEV powertrain options
- PanAmericana trim with rugged looks and optional all-wheel drive
Design
The VW Transporter T7 shares its proportions and some body panels with the Ford Transit Custom. However, Volkswagen has added its own styling cues to make it look unique. The redesigned face combines elements from the Multivan and the ID. Buzz, while the LED taillights are inspired by the VW Amarok. The interior is largely carried over from the Ford, with a standard digital cockpit and practical storage compartments.
Powertrain Options
The VW Transporter T7 is available with three turbodiesels, a 2.5-liter plug-in hybrid, and a trio of fully electric powertrain options. The diesel engines range from 108 hp to the most powerful EV with 282 hp. The ICE-powered models are available in front-wheel drive with optional all-wheel drive, while the EVs are rear-wheel drive with a future AWD version in the works.
Availability and Pricing
The VW Transporter T7 is already available to order in Germany, with prices starting from €36,780 ($39,654) excluding VAT for the entry-level diesel-powered panel van. Pricing for the Caravelle has yet to be announced. Production of the new generation will take place in Turkey, alongside the Ford Transit/Tourneo Custom.
With its versatile bodystyles and powertrain options, the all-new VW Transporter T7 is set to be a popular choice in the commercial vehicle market. Whether you need a reliable work van or a comfortable passenger transporter, the T7 has you covered.
