Aurrigo Unveils Auto-Shuttle for Autonomous Public Transit Project

Aurrigo, a UK-based autonomous vehicle manufacturer, has introduced its Auto-Shuttle as the designated driverless vehicle for the Living Lab for Autonomous Electric Vehicles project. This initiative aims to evaluate the potential of autonomous public transit in Europe.

The Auto-Shuttles will initially have a human operator on board to take control in case of any errors. However, Aurrigo plans to replace these operators with remote supervisors who can oversee the vehicles from a remote location. This transition is aimed at familiarizing riders with driverless buses while the fully autonomous technology is being developed.

According to Bani Anvari, a professor at University College London, which is collaborating with Aurrigo on this project, driverless shuttles have the potential to address various challenges faced by cities such as reducing emissions, improving safety for cyclists and pedestrians, and enhancing the quality of life for citizens.

The Living Lab for Autonomous Electric Vehicles project, funded by the European Union, is being led by University College London. Aurrigo’s Auto-Shuttle vehicles are currently operational in Prague and Brno in the Czech Republic, as well as in Milton Keynes, UK.

David Keene, the CEO of Aurrigo, expressed his excitement about this deployment in mainland Europe and working with esteemed partners to advance autonomous public transport. He highlighted the importance of testing in multiple cities, emphasizing the contrast between the medieval, cobbled streets of Prague and the modern roads of Milton Keynes.

The Auto-Shuttle relies on LiDAR technology, cameras, and Aurrigo’s proprietary software to create a comprehensive understanding of its surroundings. The company has implemented a robust safety framework to ensure responsible deployment of its technology.

With the aim of providing a clear and consistent picture of the world around it, Aurrigo’s Auto-Shuttle is equipped with advanced sensors and software. This enables it to navigate safely and efficiently in various urban environments.

The Living Lab for Autonomous Electric Vehicles project is a significant step towards the integration of autonomous public transit in European cities. By gradually phasing out the need for human operators and transitioning to remote supervisors, Aurrigo aims to build trust and acceptance among passengers for driverless buses.

The project’s focus on sustainability aligns with the broader goals of reducing emissions and improving the quality of life in urban areas. Autonomous shuttles have the potential to revolutionize public transportation by addressing these challenges and providing efficient and eco-friendly mobility solutions.

As Aurrigo expands its presence in mainland Europe through this deployment, it demonstrates the company’s commitment to advancing autonomous technology and contributing to the transformation of urban mobility.

In conclusion, Aurrigo’s Auto-Shuttle is set to play a crucial role in the Living Lab for Autonomous Electric Vehicles project. With its advanced technology and safety framework, the Auto-Shuttle aims to pave the way for autonomous public transit in Europe. As cities strive to reduce emissions and enhance mobility, driverless shuttles have the potential to be a game-changer. Aurrigo’s collaboration with esteemed partners and its focus on responsible deployment highlight the company’s dedication to revolutionizing urban transportation.
