  • Wuling Introduces New Xing Guang S Crossover with Plug-In Hybrid and Electric Powertrains

  • Impressive Range and Affordable Pricing

Wuling has recently launched the Xing Guang S (Starlight S) in China, a crossover that offers both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and electric (EV) powertrains. With its Buick-esque design and advanced features, this vehicle is set to make a mark in the market.

Key Features:

  • 81 miles of range in the CLTC cycle for the PHEV
  • 317 miles of range on a single charge for the EV
  • Pricing starts at ¥99,800 ($14,014)

Stylish Design and Impressive Dimensions

The Starlight S boasts a sleek and modern design, featuring flowing bodywork, plastic body cladding, split lighting units, rain-sensing wipers, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Its dimensions measure 186.8 inches (4,745 mm) in length, 74.4 inches (1,890 mm) in width, and 66.1 inches (1,680 mm) in height, with a wheelbase of 110.2 inches (2,800 mm). This makes it larger than the Chevrolet Equinox but smaller than the Buick Electra E5.

Comfortable and Tech-Savvy Interior

The minimalist cabin of the Starlight S offers a modern design and a range of features. It includes an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch infotainment system, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and leather front seats that can fold flat to transform into “nap beds.” The vehicle also provides 23 storage compartments and a spacious cargo area that can hold up to 62.4 cubic feet (1,768 liters) of luggage when the rear seats are folded down.

Advanced Features and Powertrains

The higher-end variants of the Starlight S offer luxurious features such as heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a panoramic moonroof. Customers can also opt for a power liftgate, a Level 2 semi-autonomous driving system, and a power supply that provides up to 3.3 kW of electricity for camping.

The PHEV variant is equipped with a 1.5-liter engine, an electronic continuously variable transmission, and an electric motor that produces 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 229 lb-ft (310 Nm) of torque. It is powered by a 9.5 or 20.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, offering a range of 37 miles (60 km) and 81 miles (130 km) respectively in the CLTC cycle. The Starlight S PHEV has a combined range of up to 684 miles (1,100 km) and can accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in as little as 7.9 seconds.

The EV variant also features the same motor but comes with a larger 60 kWh battery pack. It can accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 7.7 seconds and has a range of up to 317 miles (510 km) on a single charge.

Affordable Pricing and High Demand

The Starlight S is attractively priced, starting at ¥99,800 ($14,014) for the PHEV variant and ¥119,800 ($16,822) for the EV variant. This competitive pricing has resulted in over 10,000 pre-orders since the beginning of August, showcasing the high demand for this crossover.
