YouTuber’s Review Prompts NACS to Recall CCS Adapter | Giga Gears

Lectron NACS-to-CCS Charging Adaptor Recall

Overview

Recently, nearly 2,000 Lectron NACS-to-CCS charging adapters are being recalled due to a faulty latch that may not securely connect to Tesla Superchargers. The recall was initiated after a YouTuber reported an issue with their Lectron adapter. The affected adapters were manufactured between March 14 and April 8, 2024.

Background

Charging adapters have been in the spotlight as several automakers gained access to the Tesla Supercharger Network. Lectron is now recalling 1,624 Vortex Tesla Supercharger (NACS) to Combined Charging System (CCS) adapters due to safety concerns.

Safety Concerns

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the faulty adapter may not securely latch to the charger, posing a risk of injury from electrical shock. The Safety Recall Report revealed that some adapters have a latch pin that deviates from the intended design, preventing it from securely locking.

Recall Details

The recall was triggered by a YouTuber who reported the issue, leading to an internal investigation by Dropcases LTD, the manufacturer of the adapters. It was discovered that an error in the supplier’s processes resulted in non-conforming units being shipped to customers.

Dropcases LTD will replace the faulty adapters with new ones featuring an improved NACS latch pin design to prevent unauthorized removal of the charging coupler. The adapters were sold directly to consumers and do not involve any other OEMs or distributors.

Conclusion

It is essential for owners of Lectron NACS-to-CCS charging adapters manufactured between March 14 and April 8, 2024, to participate in the recall and get their adapters replaced to ensure safety while charging their electric vehicles.
